World Down Syndrome Day
MARCH 21ST IS WORLD DOWN SYNDROME DAY!
The WCSO Helps to Raise Awareness on WDSD!
Did you know that people with Down Syndrome have an extra copy of the 21st chromosome? In other words, they have three copies of chromosome 21 instead of the typical two. Since there are three chromosome 21s, World Down Syndrome Day is held annually on 03/21!
But why wear crazy socks? Well, it turns out the chromosome karyotype (a picture of the stained chromosomes under a microscope) looks just like striped paired socks! 🙂 So, let’s put on our craziest socks, celebrate what makes us different, and shine a spotlight on awareness for our friends, neighbors, and loved ones with Down Syndrome! 🧦✨
