Fully Deputized/Sworn P.O.S.T. Deputy for Patrol, SRO or Courthouse

Starting pay: $26.36

Job Descriptions:

Court Services: maintains the security for the Williamson County Judicial Center, the Historic Courthouse, the Administrative Office Complex and Juvenile Court. In addition, Court Services oversees the transportation of inmates to and from other agencies and serves criminal and civil warrants.

SRO: The path to becoming a School Resource Officer with the Williamson County Sheriff’s Office begins with a deputy working in the corrections division until an opportunity to interview for other divisions occurs. Upon selection from the corrections division, that deputy will then be assigned to the field training program and the Tennessee Law Enforcement Training Academy to become a Tennessee Post Certified Law Enforcement Officer. However, this requirement has been temporarily suspended for POST-Certified applicants until further notice.

Patrol: conducts proactive patrol and crime deterrence, responding to calls for service from the public, initial incident investigation, enforcing criminal and traffic laws, traffic direction and control, public order, and community interaction and relationship building

Experience:

  • 2% per full year of law enforcement experience up to 5 years

Minimum qualifications required for this position are:

  • Must be TN POST or POST in another state
  • Out of state POST will have to attend 3 week transition school to become TN POST

Main Duties:

  • Overseeing the care and well-being of inmates
  • Ensuring the security of the facility
  • Managing critical incidents within the facility
  • Monitoring inmate movement and completing security rounds throughout the facility

An NCIC will be ran on every application to verify the individual’s criminal and driving history. This check will assist in determining an applicant’s eligibility for employment with the agency.

Kneel / Stand Test

The Kneel / Stand Test contains all shooting positions required to pass the Firearms portion of the Detention Training Academy as well as the semi– annual weapons training. It consists of 15 changes of position and is administered as one continuous test. These 15 changes must be completed within 1 minute. The applicant will then be required to hold a simulated firearm out straight for two-minutes. An instructor will provide verbal cues during this test so you do not have to memorize the sequence of positions changes.

Front Plank

The Front Plank measures core strength required to surmount obstacles at the Detention Training Academy, the Law Enforcement Training Academy and on the job. It is a timed event in which participants must maintain the front plank position for a minimum of 1 minute fifteen seconds (1:15).

Pushups

Pushups measure the core and upper body strength required to complete the Detention Training Academy, the Law Enforcement Training Academy and on the job duties. The test must be completed in a 1-minute time frame. A total of 10 pushups is required, wherein the applicant will touch their chest bone to a set 6-inch block and then return to a full lock out. The proper formation will be demonstrated before the test is conducted.

Step Test

This test measures cardiovascular endurance and lower body strength required to surmount obstacles at the Detention Training Academy, the Law Enforcement Training Academy and on the job. The test requires you to complete 25 step-ups within a single minute time. You cannot stop during this test and your hands must remain by your sides or in “guard” position.

440 yard run/ Weighted Carry/ Dummy Drag

This test measures cardiovascular endurance, upper body strength, and lower body strength required to surmount obstacles at the Detention Training Academy, the Law Enforcement Training Academy and on the job. It is a timed test, requiring you to run 440 yards, then immediately carry 2x 30 pound weights for 55 yards, and then immediately drag an 80-pound dummy for 55 yards, within a 5 MINUTE time period. The applicant can only walk during the weighted carry test and cannot stop at any time.

Between the kneel-stand test, the plank, and the pushups, there will be no time granted for rest.

A 1-minute break will be granted before the Step-up Test.

Another 1minute break will be given before the run/carry/drag tests.

These tests will all be pass or fail. Failing to complete a single test will result in disqualification and the applicant will be eligible to return in to retry when and if they choose.

The instructor can fail an applicant during these tests if they believe they are not performing them to standards or believe they are struggling during the tests which would therefore cause issues while on the job.

If failed by the instructors, the applicant will be informed of their right to return and ways to improve to assist with completing the test.

Once the applicant has successfully completed their FFT, they will then return to the WCSO’s main facility for their interview. The interview will be conducted by the upper administration of the division the applicant is applying for.

The background investigation will include but not be limited too additional criminal history and driving record checks, previous and current employment verifications, previous and current educational verifications, social media, web related, financial history, and other verifications regarding the applicants lifestyle as information is discovered or shared.

The polygraph exam will include a questionnaire related to the information the applicant has submitted followed by a stress based examination over the material reported and discovered to verify its validity.

The second interview will be conducted by the Sheriff and the Chief Deputy to determine if a conditional offer of employment will be given to the applicant.

A urine based test to determine the applicant’s veracity regarding their recent drug use.

An exam given by a licensed psychologist to verify the applicant’s current mental stability and wellbeing in relation to the position requirements.

An exam given by a licensed doctor to verify the applicant’s current fitness for duty in relation to the position requirements.

Upon successful completion of every part entailed within the hiring process, a full time job offer will be given. Upon receiving this offer, the application will be asked for a start date and supplied with further information.

If I start working in the Jail, can I apply later for another division?

Yes! Once you complete the training requirements within the Detention Division, you are eligible to put in a Letter of Interest for another division when they post for an open spot!

Can I work another job while employed with the Sheriff’s Office?

Yes! As long as it does not interfere with your assigned duties and the schedule assigned by the WCSO. The other job must also be approved by the Sheriff, especially if acting in a law enforcement capacity.

I want to apply for a Patrol or Post Certified position but there is not a link to do so. Can I still apply?

The application is the same for all positions, so in short yes! However, in order to apply for one of these positions, you need to either be currently POST Certified in TN or POST Certified in another state. If certified in another state, you must be able to attend a transition school to get certified in TN if hired.

The application requires that I attach a copy of my high school diploma. I do not have it at this time. Will a transcript work or a picture of my diploma work in place of an actual copy?

Yes! A photo image of your diploma or a copy of your transcript will work and can be used as long as your personal information is included on the documents!
