WCSO Director of Training Captain Joe Cortez Appointed to IACP Education and Training Committee
The Williamson County Sheriff’s Office is proud to share that our Director of Training, Captain Joe Cortez, has been selected to serve on the Education and Training Committee of the International Association of Chiefs of Police.
The IACP is widely recognized as the professional home where research, leadership, and real-world policing come together. Captain Cortez’s appointment reflects both his national reputation and his long-standing commitment to strengthening law enforcement through thoughtful, evidence-based training.
Captain Cortez has previously served as Chair of the Research Advisory Committee and Vice-Chair of the Police Research Advancement Section.
This next role allows him to continue advancing a mission he cares deeply about, building modern, practitioner-informed education and training programs that directly improve officer performance, organizational culture, and community trust. His work consistently bridges the gap between academic research and the realities faced by law enforcement professionals every day.
Captain Cortez expressed his gratitude for the trust placed in him by IACP leadership, including IACP President David Rausch, and looks forward to working alongside leaders from across the profession to shape the future of law enforcement training.
We are proud to have Captain Cortez representing the Williamson County Sheriff’s Office on an international stage and contributing to the continued advancement of policing.
