Digital Forensics

The Digital Forensics Unit operates within the Criminal Investigations Division of the Williamson County Sheriff’s Office and plays a vital role in combatting technology-facilitated crimes, particularly those involving the exploitation of children.

The unit’s primary focus is the investigation of internet-facilitated child exploitation offenses, including the possession, distribution, and production of child sexual abuse material, as well as online enticement. Through proactive and reactive investigations, the Digital Forensics Unit works aggressively to identify offenders involved in these crimes, supporting charges such as manufacturing, possession, and promotion of child sexual exploitation material.

In addition to its work in child exploitation cases, the unit provides critical forensic support in human trafficking investigations, conducting forensic extractions and analysis of digital evidence from cellphones, tablets, and computers to uncover leads, corroborate victim statements, and identify networks of criminal activity.

The unit works in close partnership with the Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC) Task Force, the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children (NCMEC), and various federal, state, and local law enforcement agencies to support investigations and ensure the protection of vulnerable populations.

Through the use of advanced forensic tools and investigative techniques, the Digital Forensics Unit strengthens the Sheriff’s Office mission to pursue justice and safeguard the digital and physical well-being of the community.
