Residents should not assume a call or document is legitimate simply because the caller knows personal information, uses the name of an officer or judge, or sends official-looking paperwork. A large message at the bottom reads, “STOP. HANG UP. VERIFY.” Residents are instructed not to provide personal or financial information, not to send money, and not to use phone numbers or websites provided by the caller. Instead, independently locate the official phone number for the agency or court and contact them directly.
