WCSO Holiday Shopping & Package Delivery Safety Tips
The holiday shopping season is in full swing, and while most folks are out hunting for the perfect gifts, thieves are hunting for easy opportunities. Here are a few tips from the Williamson County Sheriff’s Office to stay one step ahead.
When you’re out shopping:
Lock your doors every single time, even if you’re “just running in for a minute.” Thieves love those minutes.
Keep valuables, handbags, and shopping bags out of sight. A clean car interior is a boring target, and boring is exactly what we want.
Park in well-lit areas when possible.
Stay aware of your surroundings, especially when walking to and from your vehicle.
When packages start piling up:
Track deliveries and bring them inside promptly. Porch pirates watch neighborhoods this time of year, and they’re not exactly known for holiday cheer.
Consider sending packages to a trusted neighbor, a workplace, or an Amazon/UPS/USPS pickup location if you won’t be home.
Install a doorbell camera or ensure yours is working properly. Criminals prefer not to be caught on camera, especially in HD.
If you see suspicious vehicles or someone following delivery trucks, call us. Your instincts matter.
A little preparation goes a long way in keeping your holiday season merry, bright, and theft-free. If you need us, we’re always here.
From your friends at the Williamson County Sheriff’s Office — stay safe, stay alert, and enjoy this holiday season.
